The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal’s most popular short treks, perfect for beginners, families, and travelers who want to enjoy Himalayan views without long or difficult routes. Located in the Annapurna region, this trek offers breathtaking landscapes, traditional villages, and one of the best sunrise viewpoints in Nepal.
The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek starts from Nayapul and follows a well-maintained trail through terraced fields, forests, and beautiful Gurung and Magar villages. It is an easy to moderate trek, suitable for people of almost all age groups. The trail is enjoyable, colorful, and full of natural beauty.
The biggest attraction of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the sunrise view from Poon Hill (3,210 m). From the top, trekkers can witness panoramic views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, and more. The golden morning light hitting these peaks creates a magical and unforgettable moment.
The trek passes through Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk—one of the most beautiful villages in Nepal. Ghandruk is famous for its clean stone-paved streets, local culture, and stunning views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre. Throughout the trek, you’ll enjoy rhododendron forests (especially beautiful in spring), waterfalls, scenic ridges, and warm local hospitality.
The best seasons are Autumn (Sept–Nov) and Spring (Mar–May). Winters are also fine, but mornings can be cold.
This trek is considered easy to moderate. Even first-time trekkers can comfortably complete it with normal fitness.
The cost usually ranges between USD 250–450, depending on itinerary, guide, porter, and services.

The trail then goes through rhododendron forests, green meadows, farm fields, and small streams. Along the way, you may see birds such as redstarts, kingfishers, dippers, forktails near the river, and magpies and treepies around the fields.
We continue through the village of Nangethanti and finally reach Ghorepani. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiuchuli, Tarke Kang, and other mountain ranges.

The trail goes through colorful rhododendron forests, especially beautiful in spring. Walking along ridges and through pine and rhododendron trees, we pass Deurali and then descend to reach Tadapani, where we stay overnight.
The trek becomes even more beautiful as we continue along the trail. We first walk down steep paths and pass through lovely rhododendron forests. When the rhododendron flowers are in bloom, the trail looks especially colorful. Cherry blossoms add more beauty as we move forward and reach the village of Ghandruk.
Ghandruk is the second-largest Gurung village in Nepal and offers a close look at the traditional village lifestyle that has long supported the famous Gurkha soldiers. From the village, you can enjoy views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South. Visiting the Gurung Museum and experiencing the rich Gurung culture are also highlights of the day.
